This is a novel about a little girl who suffers from Aspergers (a high-functioning form of autism) whose older brother, Devon, just got killed in a school shooting in a small-town community. Part of Aspergers is that the little girl, Caitlin, is very intelligent, but she lacks the ability to feel emotion; therefore, she doesn't understand her father's inability to cope with Devon's death, and she goes on a quest to help him find "closure." The only problem is that Caitlin is looking for something concrete to hand her father because she doesn't understand that it's a state of being.

This is an absolutely beautiful story, and I love it more each time I read it.
